Things I Like

Here are the cur­rent prod­ucts that I use and recommend:

  • Base­camp. Base­camp is a prod­uct made by 37signals, and is an excel­lent web-based app for project man­age­ment. It allows for col­lab­o­ra­tion, mile­stone and task man­age­ment, as well as mes­sag­ing between my cus­tomers and myself dur­ing the devel­op­ment process. I highly rec­om­mend it.
  • Back­pack. Back­pack is another 37Signals prod­uct. I use it for man­ag­ing my company’s inter­nal info, includ­ing ideas and record-keeping. Good stuff.
  • Har­vest. Har­vest is a web-based time-tracking appli­ca­tion by the com­pany of the same name. I use it to cre­ate esti­mates and invoices, as well as time-keeping for cost report­ing. It is cheap, and just sim­ply works.
  • Drop­box. Drop­box is another web app that pro­vides cloud-based file stor­age. I was using the free account, but have upgraded to the 50GB ver­sion. We worth the cost. All of my data is auto­mat­i­cally backed up, and is avail­able from any web browser or mobile device. Beauty.
  • Word­Press. I have to men­tion Word­Press here, too. Free and just great. You can cus­tomize it to your heart’s con­tent, and find free plu­g­ins to do just about any­thing. Did I men­tion it was free?
  • Google Apps. Google Apps is a prod­uct offered by Google that allows you to have web-based email, file and cal­en­dar man­age­ment. Google is con­stantly mak­ing it more use­ful, and it inte­grates in with mobile devices won­der­fully. Best yet, it can be free or for a fee, depend­ing on your size needs.
  • IPOWER. My web host­ing com­pany of choice is IPOWER. They pro­vide great sup­port, and are very rea­son­able. I get my domains through them as well.
